TA Loving Company continues it's support for the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC)

The Greater Greenville Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is planning to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Women in Construction (WIC) Week March 4-10.

The NAWIC's purpose is to enhance the success of women in the construction industry, and every year, it dedicates a week in March to do that. The focus of this week has been to highlight women as a visible aspect of the construction industry and for members to reach out to the communities and give back.

The Greater Greenville chapter, which includes Goldsboro and Kinston, is now over 15 years old.Plans to celebrate the week include a variety of activities - from award banquets and membership drives to community service and hands-on workshops - all designed to promote construction and the value of women's contributions to the industry.

WIC Week was created to increase the visibility of women who work in the construction industry through programs like Block Kids for elementary and middle school students held each year in February at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenville. The winner always receives a savings bond and a chance to go on to a national judging. In the past, the Greater Greenville NAWIC chapter has taken part in career fairs, Habitat for Humanity Women Build projects and collection of "Construction Toys for Tots" at Christmas that won the chapter a national award. The chapter's most prominent program is a scholarship fund for students who are in construction related programs at Pitt Community College, Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, and East Carolina University's Construction Management Program. An annual golf tournament supports the scholarship program.Founded in Fort Worth, Texas.

NAWIC has close to 200 chapters and 5,800 members across the United States. The organization celebrated 50 years in 2005.Call Linda Huggins at 527-1956 for information.
