T.A. Loving Company Offers Wellness Program to Employees

T.A. Loving Company teamed up with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and the Health Promotion Department at Wayne Memorial Hospital in February 2011 to offer a wellness program to employees. Over 200 T.A. Loving Company employees were screened for Diabetes, Hypertension and elevated cholesterol. Medical referrals were provided as necessary based on laboratory results, and employees without a primary care physician were assisted in locating one. The company wellness nurse, Carolyn Howell, is continually following up with employees individually to offer assistance with treatment plans.

Participating employees were encouraged to complete a health risk assessment provided by either BCBSNC or the American Heart Association and each individual was given a wellness score based on their screening results and answers to health-related questions. Participants received a report providing feedback on healthy behaviors and suggestions on how to improve one’s overall health.

Several participants were referred to a primary care physician for follow-up of potential health concerns and some were diagnosed with health problems and have started treatment regimens. Overall, employees report that they are making positive changes to eat healthier, exercise more and lose weight. During October, the wellness program will be offered to all remaining employees, and flu shots will be provided to all employees in November. Employees are encouraged to get to know Carolyn as she can provide individual counseling to help manage health-related problems or concerns. Carolyn is available most Fridays in the Goldsboro office for office visits or phone calls.
