This visual and performing arts magnet school is a state-of-the-art school which will accommodate 700 students, with 350 spaces reserved for those residing within the school zone and the remaining 350 spaces available to students from across the county. The design features flexible classrooms and a variety of indoor and outdoor art spaces, providing an enriching environment for creative expression. Students can proudly showcase their work in a spacious, open performance commons, fostering a vibrant and dynamic learning community.
From Jason Lembke, design leader for DLR Group, “We listened to the community, the neighbors, they talked a lot about the joy, a lot about the opportunities to innovate and so that meant a lot to us,” said Lembke. “We use the sun as a design tool, so in the canopy that’s outside that says, ‘Art is Joy,’ that will cast a shadow on the building that will move throughout the day, and just have a visual expression of that joy to the community as a reflection.” If you look carefully at the photo you will see the words, “Art is Joy” taking shape within the canopy.
